This is a list I compiled of apps and websites that I have found beneficial to aide in my teaching, student learning, and overall enjoyment of learning in the classroom and outside of the classroom.
This is a great resource to introduce information as well as to practice skills for all subject areas. Each subject area provides engaging video clips as well as games to enforce learned skills. The activities align to the Common Core Standards, making this a great grade-appropriate choice.
National Geographic Kids I like using this website to allow kids to search people, places, and things around our globe. I use this for social studies and allow students to watch videos, play games and read stories about their chosen topic. Topics range from weather to animals and even space exploration. This website is great for expanding my students' worlds.
This is a great learning tool to foster readers from kindergarten through fifth grade. I use this as an App on the iPad for one of my Daily 5 reading rotations. Reading levels are available for the teacher to individualize student profiles based on reading levels. Students are motivated to read by earning stars for each story and set of comprehension questions they complete.
I use GoNoodle as a resource to get the students moving and dancing in-between subject areas as well as transitions if students have been sitting for a long period of time. There are hundreds of videos to choose from; movement activities include yoga, Zumba, balance and coordination, and many more. There are even several videos that focus on relaxation and mindfulness as well.
I use YouTube to aide in my teaching in the classroom. I have created screencasts of me talking over a slideshow and uploaded it to YouTube to show to my class. This can make it easier for students to understand material when put in a way that is grade appropriate for them. I also subscribe to channels where children's books are read-aloud. This is nice for snack time.
Prodigy is a math resource that can be used both in App format and in an internet browser. This is an exciting curriculum-aligned math game. The game is adaptive so that each student succeeds at their own pace. I love this resource because it is free for educators and my students are genuinely excited to play this game and learn each week.
This resource like Prodigy can be used in App format or in an internet browser. I use this as an option in Daily 5 for spelling and vocabulary word practice. I like this because I can edit word lists and add our weekly spelling and vocabulary words so students can play games using these words.
This resource is awesome to foster reading and create excitement about reading. This is free to educators however to access at home parents have to pay a monthly or yearly fee. At school students can access over 25,000 of the best books around. The wide selection of books, magazines, and even educational videos is the highlight of this resource. My students love finding books they are interested in when searching the catalog.
Sumdog is a math game that my students find motivating and engaging. I am able to join contests so that my classroom can compete against other classes in the school, county and even the country. This resources helps students increase speed and accuracy while helping them become more fluent in their math facts.
Kahoot is a fun engaging resource that students love. I am able to create multiple choice questions that students answer using a device like an iPad, MacBook or even a phone. This resource can be used to introduce a topic or to reinforce learned knowledge.
