Cooking with TPACK was my first experience with the intersection of technological, pedagogical and content knowledge. TPACK is a theory developed by Dr. Matthew Koehler and Dr. Punya Mishra. The purpose of this was to repurpose kitchen utensils for different purposes, rather than what they were designed for. This is very important when incorporating technology into classrooms and all learning experiences in general. My video is posted below and to view my blog post to learn more, click here.

Maker Movement in Education is something I strive to incorporate into my classroom. The video below I created to highlight what it means to be a "maker". Essentially we all are makers in some way. The remix culture is part of the larger maker movement and the video is a remix. A remix is taking something and making it your own in some way or even making something totally different. I also created a Maker Education infographic to highlight what I see as five of the most important benefits of #MakerEd: Community & Collaboration, Learning through Production, Personalized Learning, Creativity & Innovation, and Engagement. Click on the image to the left to view the infographic.
I believe the movement is a good change as it fosters innovative thinking, a skill many will need as we continue on in the 21st century. While some teachers welcome the shift to maker education, some might be more apprehensive. To view my infographic and learn more please click here. |
I created a maker space lesson plan using a maker kit, specifically (Makey Makey), found items, and research on learning, content knowledge and pedagogy (TPACK). The project challenged me to integrate technology and repurpose items around my house and or from a thrift store. This forced me to think creatively whole also keeping the bigger picture of fostering learning for my students in the classroom. Click here to view my rationale and lesson plan.

I created and infographic to show my beliefs on how learning occurs. This infographic aligns with my Personal Theory of Learning essay which can be viewed here.

In this blog post I shared the meaning of a professional learning network (PLN). Using Popplet I created a visual to highlight my PLN which includes social media, my colleagues and professional development among many others. I believe a PLN is crucial to staying ahead in this world of ever-changing best practices. To view my PLN in more detail, click here.

For this Network Learning Project I learned how to do something new. Easy enough, however the catch was I could only use YouTube videos and Help Forums to aide in my learning and understanding. The practicality and choice aspects of this project were eye opening to me as I truly felt infested in my learning and took ownership of my learning and understanding. A Wicked Problem in education. I worked with a group of colleagues and grappled with the wicked problem of failure as a learning mode. Wicked problems are challenging to answer for a reason because there are never easy answers. While this is the case, the importance of taking these problems head on and asking difficult questions benefits many in the education field. Click here to view an infographic I made. My colleagues and I also put together this website Failure as a Learning Mode about our process and research on this wicked problem.
